Concept: Retro-Futuristic London, Hyde Park

Here is another concept for the Narrative project, depicting the great retro-futuristic metropolis, in this place specifically one of many pods will  crash-land and wreak havoc in such a peaceful and technological advanced place.
For this concept I used one photograph taken by me, in one of the many trips to the English Capital, to adjust it to fit I had to crop it and change some fore and background elements. Overall I think I succeed in conveying the huge area where the pod will land and the Invisible cannibals will come out.

Here is the final concept:

Also the WIPS for the same concept, where you can seethe progress done and what more or less I had to change from the original picture.

Alongside this concept, I am also posting the original picture, so it can be seen the difference between both.

Concept: Retro-Futuristic London, Houses of the Parliament

So the London we will see in the film, is a retro-London, a vision how the English Capital would look 50 years from the time the film is set, 1950. This also coincide with the year 2000, and despite London not looking like this now, filmmakers of the time had a quite vivid idea how the future would look like.

 B & W Version

P.S: I used a wider version than the regular 16:9, for a panoramic look.

Alongside the painting is the progress I have done, and the choices I had to take.

Concept: Space Station Interior

Here is the latest concept art piece, I have been working on it depicts the inside of the Space station which will be attacked by those fake meteors. This concept not only depicts the place but also try to show it as a a set, so to set things straight, this interior is not more than only a cheap set designed as a space station interior. The rounded shape corridor is to share logic with the rounded shape of the Space Station exterior.

Alongside the final piece, here is also a step-by-step, of what I did from perspective grid to adding final details.

Concept: Character Design - The Scientist

After our recent pitch we realised how the art direction of ths project needed to pull itself together in able to create a distinct world of which a theme would flow fluently. As a result, the characters were prooving to be too "Americanised" and needed reconstructing into something more British, 1950's and overall using a different technique of painting. This style of painting people in photoshop is new to me, so although a little shakey and slow ive been working on these characters and progressing much better as a result. Here is the Scientist in his final design as the group have collectively decided.

Concepts: Spaceman Concept

Finally, after so many hazards and delays to get this painted, it is finally done. So here is the concept for the Astronaut, or in this case, the villain in our animation. In this concept the only part with colour are the red buttons, although in our animation everything will be B&W, in the poster we have to get a coloured version, even if minimal.

Once and yet again, this concept was based on a quick sketch by A Flock of Pixels, which gave me a clear idea what what to draw and to paint.

Concept Art: RAD Device concept

Here's the concept for the device which will solve the case in this film, although it may not feature in the trailer as we dont want to spoil what is happening in the end of the film, it maybe be use in terms of Marketing. Yes, here at B3D Studios, we want to sell a miniature version of the RAD device, so everybody can go outside an try to fight the invisible cannibals with a hairdryer look-like device.

Once again, the main sketch was done by Aflockofpixels, the engineer in service, and my job was to take it a bit further into the digital world.

Concept Art:The General

Here is the finalised character design of the General that we collectively decided upon. Notice the broad shoulders and the large, masculine chin to add to his character.

Concept Art: Retro Futuristic Cars

Alongside with the design of the tank, I drew a couple of car designs which will populate, the Metropolis, using the retro- futurist style as a starting point, I developed some designs of imaginary vehicles. Also, I divided them by categories normal, cheap and expensive. having different cars with reasonable basic shapes will help me to randomize the metropolis.

Once again, this concepts were based on a sketch by Aflockofpixels, which later I developed in 3 designs.

Concept Art: Army Tank Final Concept

Here is the complete Concept Sheet for the Army Tank, based once again on a sketch by Aflockofpixels (Ethan), My job was to draw the turnaround version, and a perspective view to better depict the vehicle.
This concept depicts the main vehicle used by the army to surround the Invisible menace.

Concept Art: Space Pod Final Concept

Here is the concept for the Space pod, which will carry the scary invisible forces from beyond the stars. Based on the sketch by Aflockofpixels, my job here was to clean up the drawing and paint it digitally, the use of Black and white is to follow through the concept of our Animation, a B&W 1950's Sci-Fi B-movie.. Also, having done an accurate front and top view, this concept is ready to be modeled.

The Space Pod Concept:

The original sketch and some other support material.

Concept: Final Title Samples

After receiving feedback on the previous uploaded trailer titles, We decided to take the most appealing title and develop it a little further. By changing the white colour for a transparent layer, it will help me to better depict the invisibility quality.
For the title, when applied to the trailer We want to create a small animation within the title, this technique was seen before in the B-movies, such as " Invisible Invaders", and consist in have the normal version of the title, which will then become transparent. only visible by the glow around it or the outline of the font. Just like this:

For a better idea of what I'm trying to achieve here is the trailer.

Invisible Invaders trailer:

Finally, to mention colour, the coloured version is to be used in the Poster and concept layouts, where the B&W version will be used in the final animation.

Concept Art: The Scientist- Final Concept

Here's the decided design for the hero of our story. The Scientist saves the day by finding a device which makes the invisible cannibals visible.

Here's a few drawn images of his design from our finalising character design meeting:

The character's personality is somewhat shy, hes content within his own environment, with his own company in his laboratory. He doesn't get out much to exercise, therefore he is of a typical slim build. Most heroes within films, or main characters in the 1950's were often good looking, therefore we had to choose a way to create this character to feel geeky yet at the same time handsome and lovable.

Other characters in films have used this design principle to reflect this type of character personality, such as the reference image posted by Ruben. (below)

We decided that turn arounds of the characters should come later once we are closer to the modelling process.

Concept Art: Space Station Final Concept

Here is the final concept based on the chosen sketch for the space station. For this final concept, I'm using a rather different approach, being presented with the use of markers in concept art, I decided to give it a go, and improve my own skills with them. Although, I can't experiment with colour, it is always a fast and good approach to get some concepts at a professional stage.
